Learning language by doing sports
Ganz unter dieser Devise verbrachte die Freizeitsport- und Golfklasse 3T Ende September ihre „sportliche“ Sprachreise in Dublin.
In englischsprachigen Workshops lernten die SchülerInnen vormittags unter Anleitung von Trainern typisch irische Sportarten kennen und probierten diese selbst aus. Untergebracht war die Klasse in Gastfamilien, wodurch ebenfalls wertvolle Spracherfahrungen gesammelt wurden. Kulturell, sportlich und sprachlich gesehen konnten so viele Eindrücke mit nach Hause ins Zillertal genommen werden.
The walk through the city Dublin was interesting. We passed Molly Malone and touched her for good luck. Another great sight which we saw is the Spire, some kind of needle which is 121,5m high and was built in 2000.
Do you know that Europe´s 3rd largest stadium is not a football stadium? It´s Croke Park in Dublin with space for more than 80.000 people. The 3 games which the Irish play there are Hurling, Gaelic Football and Gaelic Handball. Trying the games was fun and visiting the stadium was amazing.
On Tuesday afternoon we took the train to “ Howth“, a small fishing village north of Dublin. We did a lovely walk along the cliffs – it was amazing to enjoy the view of the sea, the nature, the birds and for sure the breath of the salty air.
It was an amazing Wednesday night in an Irish pub. We learned some steps of the Irish dance, played the drum, and sang some Irish songs.
We also enjoyed typically Irish food and the live music in the background.
On Thursday we went to Clontarf Golf Club by bus. It´s a very beautiful Golf course, and we played there for 3 hours (most of us, some got lost on the bus... ) We also had a pro who taught us some techniques. At first we did putting and played some fun games. After that we went chipping and we tried to hit the ball as far as we could. We learned a lot in this short time.
On our last day we did a city kayaking tour with a professional guide. It was an amazing experience to see the city Dublin from another perspective.
